This isn't a snare actually played by vinnie, or is it? Doesn't say so, so I assume not. I know it's limited, but, how much better does that drum sound compared to mass produced similar yamaha snares? Is there a non vinnie sig snare just like it? Just curious. Not that I'm gonna bid, too much money for me, haha! Still, a limited edition is definitely gonna be a good buy for a collector.

Also, I think Vinnie was sneaking Gretsch at the time of his solo album ('94), so it was possibly a Gretsch snare we heard on his solo album, not his signature snare.

I have a story about the drum in question! a few months ago, a local guy was selling it (#341)here in CANADA for $400.00 CDN. Considering what they can fetch on EBAY, I thought I might buy it. When I checked it out, the rim was out of round, so I decided not to buy it. A few weeks later, the guy sells it on EBAY and got $1200 US!!
I could have made some good money had I been more business minded...
anyways, thats my sad story!

I think that before I pay $1,000 or more for a snare drum it better have been owned by that player. I think that is absoloutely ridiculous for a snare drum! PT.

Look on the inside of Vinnie'e solo album and there is a picture of his blonde Gretsch kit. That snare never had a chance on getting recorded during that period! Even when he was endorsed by Yamaha, he was recording with his Gretschs. I have one of these Yamaha snares and I never play it. The newer Vinnie Gretsch Signature snare is 100 times what that Yamaha snare is. Although I am not the biggest fan of that Yamaha snare, I would never get rid of it! It is a cool Vinnie collectable...

I actually have a Vinnie signature snare drum that Vinnie did indeed play. Vinnie did a clinic in Atlanta in 1994 (PASIC, I believe). Anyway, at this time he was still with Yamaha, and I was working there in the percussion marketing department. Vinnie played his signature drum at the clinic, and a music store had agreed to purchase the drum after the clinic.

Well, I’m at the Yamaha percussion warehouse unloading the truck that returned from PASIC, and low and behold, there’s the Vinnie snare. It was sent back to Yamaha by mistake. Needless to say, the music store got a different drum, and I bought that one and took it home with me. I even had them document that Vinnie used the drum in case there was ever any question. I’m like Lorenzini, I never play the drum… but it’s mostly because I don’t want to get additional marks on the head… it is still in the same condition as it was when it arrived back at Yamaha, still with only Vinnie’s marks on the drumhead.

This is an incredible sounding drum, however. A lot of players at that time used this drum in the studio such as Russ Miller & John Robinson, to name a couple.

I believe this picture from Steve's Vinnie section was taken at Sting's studio during the Mercury Falling recording, and you can see he has the snare.....does that mean he tore the Gretschs down and set up the Yamahas for the benefit of the shoot?

got vince

That's 10 summoner's, he switched to Gretch by Mercury.

I have no idea what he used on any of the albums. I can only assume it was his Gretsch. That picture may have been for rehearsals.
